Rural Retreats
Since 2003, DanceEast has been offering international Rural Retreats for established and aspiring artistic leaders in dance.
Rural Retreats provide a short, intensive experience that includes opportunities to hear from leaders in the world of business, sport and the arts to discuss issues and concerns, and to build networks and connections with peers from around the world. Both think tanks and learning opportunities, Rural Retreats are a unique gathering of leaders from across the global dance community.
2013 marked the tenth anniversary of DanceEast’s Rural Retreats when, over four days, 28 Artistic Directors from many of the world’s leading dance companies met in the UK to discuss global challenges facing dance leadership today. The event, which was hosted by DanceEast, brought together renowned Artistic Directors from 17 nationalities, working for companies based in 18 countries. Collectively, they spanned the world – from Australasia to North America, and across Europe to Asia – providing an international perspective on the issues facing dance leaders today. During a positive weekend of discussions, delegates shared knowledge and concerns, and heard presentations from leaders working in the fields of sports management, psychology and opera.
In August 2016 we hosted the first ever Young Rural Retreat bringing together a diverse mix of young aspiring leaders from different parts of the world, dance forms and backgrounds, who share a passion for future leadership in dance and who want to learn more about themselves, leadership and, where and how they may contribute and make a difference
DanceEast’s most recent Rural Retreat was in January 2020 and was for individuals who aspire to lead a Ballet or Contemporary Dance Company, or Organisation. You can read more about it by clicking on the link opposite.
The next Rural Retreat will be in 2022 and will be for existing leaders.
